In case you haven’t been curious enough to look it up, here is the definition of “venality”: a vice associated with being bribeable or of selling one's services or power, especially when one should act justly instead. In its most recognizable form, dishonesty, venality causes people to lie and steal for their personal advantage, and is related to bribery and nepotism, among other vices.

To use this term in association with most government officials might seem presumptuous, but probably accurate. Like many people I am suspicious of our elected members of congress and their actions. Especially those who have been in that job most of their lives. I fear they have been entangled with questionable issues, and have lost sight of ethics and virtues to which they have become numbed.

It is the system they blame with self deceived justification, blinded from the recognition that they are the system. Government corruption runs deep and true. It has gone on for so long and is so common that it has become acceptable and an ordinary way of life for those engaged.

Here I am, just an ordinary citizen with no special insight or knowledge beyond what I get from the media. And the media is not reporting any corruption in Washington, so why would I think that? Aha! there’s the rub. We know the media is not corrupt, because if it was they would be reporting themsleves, right? Do you see the problem here?

As a people, we have no way to know what goes on inside our government? It is mostly concealed and covered up, and has so much security wrapped around it, only those on the inside have any clue. For many decades now, we have been slowly pushed out and fed so much propaganda, media misdirection, and just plain lies that we have no idea just how bad it really is, and those in power like it that way.

Recently, all the hoopla surrounding government spying on citizens has become big news from the underground, but the media has chose to look the other way while the government continues right on and always for the sake of national security. Only a certain whistleblower has the integrity to expose the ugly truth.

The Congress of the United States is firmly entrenched in its mode of operations and will do everything in its power to hold on to that state. Even though the division of power between the two parties is widening, and the fight continues, it is still the ruling force of the country and will remain that way and nothing short of a violent revolution of the people, will change it.

Power will not rest until it is absolute. That’s just a historical fact of man.
